This week we celebrate the independence of the United States on July 4th. For those of you reading from other countries, it’s a national holiday and we traditionally celebrate Independence Day by wearing red, white, and blue, having picnics with friends & family, and watching fireworks.
This photo is one I took at the opening ceremony for Portland’s recently completed Tilikum Crossing bridge. This bridge is the largest car-free bridge in the country. Tilikum Crossing is used only for public transportation, bicyclists, and pedestrians! It’s name, Tilikum, is a Native American word meaning people — and the bridge’s nickname is the Bridge of the People.
For those of you in the USA, have a great 4th of July! For those living in or visiting Portland, check out this list of holiday weekend events, many of which are free! Happy Independence Day, and stay safe this week and weekend!
