Our Travel Valentine!

Valentine’s Day is just around the corner. It’s hard to believe that this will be our 28th Valentine’s Day together and that we’ve been married for more than 25 years. (It’s not that we’re surprised we’re still married — it’s that we can’t believe it’s been 25 years since our wedding day!) If there’s been one theme that’s been a big part of our quarter-century together, it’s travel. We love to travel!

Over the past 25 years, we’ve been lucky enough to visit four continents, 36 countries, 37 US states, and 42 US national parks. (Yes, we’re listers.)

We definitely have several destinations we love, and for our 25th anniversary, we compiled a list of our 25 favorite travel destinations. Let us know if you’ve been to any of these places!

We also love the US national parks. These parks are one of America’s best ideas and are an affordable way to see some of the most beautiful spots in the United States. They give people a chance to relax and unwind, breathe in some fresh backcountry air, and rejuvenate. We’ve visited lots of parks and have some tips for those of you who are unsure what to do when you visit a national park. You can also search for specific national parks in our search box, as we’ve written posts on several different trips. And if you don’t see a post about a park you’re thinking of visiting, leave us a question in the comments and we’ll tell you what we know!

Jeff loves backpacking and goes on a backpacking trip nearly every summer. The national parks offer some incredible backcountry experiences, 8 of which Jeff will be highlighting next week, so tune in! He previously posted specifics about a backpack trip to Channel Islands National Park and a backpack trip to Sequoia National Park.

Since this is a budget travel website, of course we love to find ways to make travel more affordable. We have several tips and tricks that can help with any trip. We try to eat inexpensively. We make sure we get the best rental car price. We look carefully for good airline fares or use frequent flyer miles. Doing these things requires a little more effort, and all our meals might not be fantastic, but the money we save by eating peanut butter sandwiches for lunch might just give us another night on the road, and for us, the trade-off is worth it.

Wherever your travel adventures take you, we hope that you enjoy your week or your weekend as much as we’ve enjoyed traveling together! Happy Valentine’s Day!
